Agriculture in S.C. is
at a Turning Point

Other states are growing their markets and expanding opportunities. Meanwhile, we are losing ground.

Jeremy Cannon is running to change that. His plan protects family farms, strengthens our food supply, and creates jobs in every corner of our state.

South Carolina State

ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED:

ISSUE #1: PROTECT FAMILY FARMS

The Problem

Family farms are under pressure from rising costs, weather events, and policy decisions that do not reflect real farm experience. Too many farms have been lost, and too many families have had to walk away from the land they love.

Jeremy’s Plan

• Support families when disaster strikes
• Expand local markets so farms have reliable places to sell crops
• Prioritize policies that help families stay on their land

What Success Looks Like

More farms operating, more land preserved, and stronger rural communities.

ISSUE #2: STRENGTHEN OUR FOOD SUPPLY & SAFETY

Strengthen Food Supply

The Problem

South Carolina relies heavily on imported foods that may not meet the same safety standards as local products. Long supply chains are prone to failure and pose risks to families and businesses.

Jeremy’s Plan

• Support local production so more food is grown and processed here
• Work with regulators to maintain strong, practical safety standards
• Encourage growth in local processing and distribution

What Success Looks Like

More local food on shelves. More confidence for consumers. A safer and more dependable system for our entire state.

ISSUE #3: GROW JOBS IN RURAL COMMUNITIES

The Problem

When the ADM soybean plant closed, South Carolina lost a major processor and millions in economic activity. Other states fight to keep agriculture jobs. Ours slipped away without a real effort to keep them here, or a plan for replacing the lost jobs and opportunities.

Jeremy’s Plan

• Attract and retain ag-related businesses statewide
• Restore lost markets and develop new ones
• Make South Carolina competitive with North Carolina and Georgia

What Success Looks Like

More good jobs. More thriving small towns. A stronger future for every family in South Carolina.

ISSUE #4: SUPPORT voluntary LAND TRUSTS

Support Land Trusts

The Problem

South Carolina’s land is one of its greatest resources, yet it faces threats that go far deeper than foreign buyers. Misinformation, development pressure, and policies written without a full understanding of agriculture put farmland at risk of being lost forever. Some businesses are exploiting tax incentives intended for farmers, using programs that claim to support agriculture but ultimately leave land unfarmable. Without clear, informed guidance, decision makers can unintentionally weaken the very protections our state relies on for food security and agricultural jobs.

Jeremy’s Plan

• Educate legislators so they can make informed decisions rooted in real agricultural knowledge
• Strengthen and expand land trust programs that keep land in productive agriculture
• Offer incentives so that families can voluntarily participate in land trusts and keep their land in farming
• Increase transparency and accuracy around land use policies to prevent exploitation

What Success Looks Like

More protected farmland. More land is kept in productive agriculture. A stronger system that safeguards South Carolina’s resources on every front. Because Jeremy works the land himself, he understands the issue and knows how to keep South Carolina’s farmland safe.

Standing up after the 2015 Flood

Jeremy partnered with Clemson Extension, Farm Bureau, and lawmakers to secure disaster relief. The Farm Aid Fund kept farms operating and protected the families who feed our state.

Creating a new market for local farmers

When cucumber contracts disappeared, Jeremy traveled to Canada on his own time and brought a new contract back home. That effort reopened a market, helping growers plant again and restore income.

Championing rural jobs and opportunity

Jeremy has spent years helping families and neighbors recover and rebuild. His leadership is rooted in service and in making sure rural communities have the opportunity to thrive.
